![]() If you ever get the chance, this is the pinnacle of motorsports in my opinion and needs to be seen to be understood. The Bonneville Salt Flats cover 121sq km in Northwestern Utah and during Speed Week each year, they come to life with the sound of highly tuned engines. ![]() The amount of planning, engineering, and hard work that goes into these cars comes obvious when seeing how they are constructed and hear the speeds some of these vehicles can reach. Pair this perfectly unique setting with hot rods, million dollar horsepower machines, and 49cc mopeds reaching 80mph, and you have yourself Speed Week. Surrounded in mountains lays a vast openness of nothing but white as far as the eye can see. The event is held on a salt deposit formed over millions of years. In my opinion, what makes this event so unique is first (obviously) the setting. The sunrise over the Bonneville Salt Flats on the border between Utah and Nevada is a special time during Speed Week. I have been fortunate enough to make the trip and be a part of the Bonneville Speed Week Media team this year, and love trying to capture the feeling of this event via stills. ![]() It is something that has to be experienced to fully appreciate, and to understand its vibe. ![]()
